My condolences to the family. Gordon was such a nice man. I am so happy to have introduced Oliver to him and Toby.

I have always thought of Gordon Newman as the first person who believed in me, outside of my own dear parents.
I was a young legal assistant in the law department at Sara Lee, where Mr. Newman was General Counsel. Gordon believed I was destined to do more. He suggested I go to law school, but I explained I could not afford to do so. With his approval, the company decided to pay my full tuition. Gordon encouraged me to always give back and felt strongly that volunteering to help others was important. Back then, I joined an initiative at Cook County Jail to provide legal counsel to women in that system, and have continued to stay involved in non-profit organizations. Gordon was a kind mentor and a careful listener who provided many opportunities for me to grow and develop professionally. Although I did not complete my law degree, 25 years ago I founded a company that operates internationally.
Gordon’s confidence in me had a long lasting impact and I am very grateful to have known him.

Our sincere condolences. We spent decades with Gordon, Tobi and all the kids at Cooke’s home every Passover. Gordon was a kind, thoughtful man who always made us feel special. May he Rest In Peace.
